Horizontal rectangular needlework picture in gilt frame; landscape scene depicting a man on the left watching a woman in gold Empire-style dress standing in a gondola, floating down a stream surrounded by trees and shrubs; far background, sky, stream and mountains are painted on silk, both figures' heads and hands are of painted paper; gondola and foliage worked in chenille of various natural colors, predominantly browns and golds, both figures worked in satin stitch with silk floss.

Gallery Label:
The original "Liberty" flag of Fort Moultrie, Sullivan's Island, SC, is not extant. It was designed by Colonel William Moultrie, commander of the 2nd South Carolina Regiment of Foot of 1775. The fort had no signal flag, so he designed one to match his troops uniforms, blue with a silver crescent moon on the front of their caps. It was the first American flag displayed in South Carolina.
