To celebrate Women’s History Month, Sunday Story Time is featuring Tar Beach by famous artist, writer, and activist Faith Ringgold.

Tar Beach is the dreamy story of young Cassie Louise Lightfoot flying over New York City, narrating her life. Through Cassie’s voice, Ringgold tells the story of family, hardship, and tradition in this heartwarming tale.

To celebrate Black History Month, this week Sunday Story Time will honor self-taught artist Clementine Hunter. We will read Art from Her Heart by Kathy Whitehead and Shane W. Evans.

Clementine was a plantation maid by day and artist by night. Through her paintings, she recorded daily plantation life.  Though in her lifetime she faced racism and adversity, she is now celebrated as an icon of American art.

February is Black History Month. Join us this week to read Firebird by Misty Copeland, the second ever African-American soloist from American Ballet Theatre.

Find out this week at a very special Sunday Story Time with special guest Planet Han. After we read Where Do Steam Trains Sleep at Night?, Planet Han will translate the story into Chinese and teach everyone a few words, then we’ll make a craft!
