Dark blue wool infantry officer's double-breasted frock coat; 1 1/2" closed stand-up collar (one hook and eye) lined with dark blue velvet; 7 buttons down each side of the front, horizontal slit watch pocket to the right at the waistline; 8 3/4" wide closed sleeves with false cuffs, 3 buttons at each wrist; back made in 4 panels, 2 buttons near the center at the waistline, split skirt; all buttons cast with shield-breasted eagle with "I" at the center; coat lined with dark green silk, sleeves lined with white cotton, breast and sides lightly padded and quilted, vertical slit pocket at the left breast.

According to military history expert William Brown, this frock coat may have been worn by Brigadier General Samuel K. Zook, who commanded the 3rd Brigade of the 2nd Corps at Gettysburg. Leather, cotton, and brass sword belt; stitched, black leather-covered canvas sword belt with loop sewn near center of belt suspending scabbard sling with brass hook at end that fastens to scabbard sling sewn on left side of belt, and with rectangular brass plate at right end that fastens to clip on left; plate has stamped eagle in center with shield on breast, three arrows in one talon, branch in other talon, and flanked by wreath at bottom, with rayed background, thirteen stars, and scroll inside inscription at top.

The Scottish glengarry was worn as part of the full dress uniform of the 79th Regiment of the New York State Militia, who were also known as the "Highlanders," "Cameron Highlanders," "Highland Guard," and "Bannockburn Battalion." The regiment was formed in 1859 in New York City. In 1861 the full dress uniform included kilt, sporran, and knee-high stockings, along with the glengarry.
