This depicts the 12-gun schooner Enterprise at the time of the War with Tripol. David Porter (1780-1843) was second-in-command of the vessel, which was built in Maryland in 1799 by Henry Spencer. This watercolor was probably painted at Marseilles and was removed from a sketchbook of the younger Antoine. The date of the drawing, however, means that he would probably have been too young to execute the fine details of this sketch, and therefore it is attributed to his father.
