Description:
Pair of lieutenant's(?) epaulets; rigid, gold lace-covered strap with gilded metal button embossed with eagle insignia; gilded brass crescent with roll of gold thread embroidery around outer edge; three layers of gold bullion fringe, the outermost measuring 3 1/4 inches in length and 1/4 inch in diameter; padded red silk lining and brass channel fastener with spring mounted hook.

Description:
Medium blue wool single-breasted uniform coat (possibly musician's?), with 2" closed yellow stand-up collar (2 sets hooks and eyes) with "A" embroidered on each side at the throat; black shoulder knots on each shoulder; coat closes with 8 sets of hooks and eyes, but has 5 frogs down the front for ornament, with black lacing extending out from each frog; sleeves have yellow tripple chevrons above each elbow, black sleeve knots above slanted double yellow stripes, yellow chevrons around each wrist; side seams split at each hip and have hook and eye closing; 4 panels at the back of the bodice with incurving black lacing from shoulder blade to bottom hem, bodice split in the center at the bottom, black lacing around all outer edges; collar and bottom of coat lined with black satin, bodice lined with linen, lightly padded and quilted, vertical slit pocket on the left breast lined with black satin.

Description:
Medium blue wool jodhpurs with 1 1/4" yellow stripe down the side of each leg; 6 button fly, top 2 button fasten from the interior, a tab to the left at the top which fastens to a button on the inside; 6 belt loops and 6 buttons around the waistband, right side slit watch pocket, vertical slit pockets at each hip behind the stripes, pockets button closed from the inside; 2 straps beneath the waistband at the back, straps buckle at the center to rectangular metal buckle with double-tongued chape; 3 buttons at the bottom of each calf; pockets and waistband lined with linen.

Description:
White silk Air Force dress waistcoat; the front is woven in a waffle pattern, and has long lapels which are bulbous at the bottom, 3 gold buttons at the stomach cast with the Great Seal at the center, 2 pockets at the stomach; plain weave silk back with 2 straps at the small of the back which buckle at the center to silver-colored metal double-tongued chape buckle, buckle fastened to the left strap with mother of pearl button; lapels and inside lined with plain weave white silk.

This Air Force tailcoat was worn by Colonel Stedman Shumway Hanks of New York during World War II; the Society owns the complete uniform. According to Col. Hanks, this uniform was not regulation issue in 1960 when it was donated. It was, however, required evening dress when the U.S.A.F. became a separate department of the War Department. It was required only for official receptions such as those at the White House and when military dignitaries held special meetings with foreign representatives.

Description:
Red wool militia officer's double-breasted dress coat with epaulets; 1" blue closed stand-up collar with red tabs that fold out from the opening towards the shoulders, secured with buttons at the ends of the tabs; metal attachments at the shoulders for epaulets; 7 buttons down each side of the bodice, each side of the bodice has buttonholes, the sides along the buttonholes have white piping; closed sleeves (no cuffs) have blue chevron shape at the bottom, with 3 buttons, gilt sleeve knots; 4 panels at the back of the bodice, with 2 buttons near the center at the waistline, a blue stripe along the edges of split skirt with a button on each side; metal clasp buckle on straps at the inside of the waistband, vertical slit interior right breast pocket, bodice lined with white linen, skirt lined with red linen, bodice lightly padded and quilted; epaulettes have white ground with 2 silver stripes and a "6" (or "9") at the center, gold shoulder knots with buttons at the collar ends, reverse lined with dark blue felt, hinged metal hooks; all buttons cast with eagle above quadrant shield, surrounded by stars and "EXCELSIOR" at the bottom.
