Description:
Shako with rigid, cylindrical, black felt-covered crown that is tapered and angled forward; flat black patent leather top and black patent leather visor which is thick and somewhat rectangular; black patent leather chin strap secured at either side by a gilded metal button embossed with crossed cannon; circular gilded metal insignia plate with border of alternating spears and cannon, and applied metal "7" on black enameled disk at center; white pompon.

Description:
Dark blue wool single-breasted regimental Lieutenant's (?) tailcoat with red stand-up double collar, lapels and open cuffs (1 button fastener); 4 sets of hooks and eyes along the chest, 10 plain double-gilt buttons along each lapel, 4 buttons around each 2 1/2" cuff above blind buttonholes on close fitted sleeves; 4 panels at the back of the bodice, with 2 buttons near the center at the waistline, pockets with flaps at the top of each tail near the hip with 3 buttons beneath, a button at the bottom of each tail; coat lined with white linen, an interior slit pocket (horizontal) at the top of each tail, blue wool felt hearts at the 4 bottom corners of the tails, with hooks and eyes to keep the corners folded back.

Gallery Label:
This Lieutenant's coat was used as a costume by Revolutionary War genre painter John Ward Dunsmore (1856-1945). Dunsmore attended Cincinnati's School of Design 1873-1875, and exhibited at the Salon in Paris in 1878. His interests turned toward the Revolutionary War and archaeology, when he began working with William Calver and Regianld Bolton after 1901. According to Military expert William L. Brown, this coat is a unique example of enlisted men's Revolutionary War dress.

Description:
Black wool officer's dress trousers with 2 gold lace stripes down each leg; 5 button fly at the front (1 button missing), with a tab to the left of the fly which fastens to a button inside the waistband, fly with 1 hook and eye to the right on the waistband; 4 pockets, 4 suspender buttons around the waistband, 2 straps at the rear beneath the waistband with a rectangular metal buckle with double-tongued chape; waistband lined with black silk, pockets lined with black cotton or linen.

These trousers were worn by General Robert Lee Bullard (1861-1947). Bullard served for 40 years as an officer in the U.S. Army. During World War I he was commander of the 2nd Army of the American Expeditionary Force. He graduated from West Point in 1885. As a 2nd Lieutenant he was sent to fight the Apaches under Geronimo. After retirement in 1925 he was appointed president of the National Security League. The Society owns all of Bullard's uniforms.

Dark blue wool single-breasted artillery 2nd Lieutenant's uniform coat; 1" closed stand-up collar (1 hook and eye), with single gold bar at each end of shoulder straps against red ground, 9 artillery buttons down the front of the bodice (2 missing); closed false cuffs with 3 buttons on each 8 1/4 (flat) sleeve; 4 panels on the back of the bodice; inside lined with dark green silk, a horizontal slit pocket at each breast, front of bodice lightly padded and quilted, sleeves lined with white twill-weave linen; all buttons have shield-breasted eagle clutching a branch and arrows in its talons, with "A" on the shield.

Dark blue or black wool Naval officer's double-breasted tailcoat with 1" closed stand-up collar (1 hook and eye); metal epaulette attachments at the shoulders; 9 buttons down the front on each side; closed sleeves (no cuffs) with 3 bands of gilt lacing around the wrists with 1 star above the lacing; 4 panels at the back of the bodice, with 2 buttons near the center of the waistliine, a button at the bottom of each tail; all buttons cast with an eagle perched on an anchor, encircled by stars; lined with matching wool at the breasts, with horizontal slit pocket at the left breast, lightly padded and quilted, remainder of coat lined with white silk; each tail has a vertical slit pocket inside near the center.
